Fashion & Flat Whites: Tanya Guccione

Tanya sporting a stunning, black-and-white two-piece set from Cotton On styled with a yellow jacket from Nasty Gal. Are you as in love with this two-piece set as we are?

Tanya is known for her purple hair. She has a vibrant, fun personality and is most recently known for her stint on “The Block 2021.” She has had a long running career within the makeup industry as a professional celebrity makeup artist, with over 20 years experience working on runway shows around Australia and overseas. She is a true artist in every way and loves to express herself through her work, whether in canvas or what she wears.

She currently has her own online store, where she has combined her love for makeup and art and amalgamated the two to create her own makeup brush range. You will also find a few selected pieces of art that are available for purchase, too. Tanya is passionate about thrifting and gaining inspiration from different eras when it comes to fashion.

How would you describe your style?

I would say my style is eclectic! I dress how I feel. I use it as a tool to express myself. Often, it’s like I’m stepping into a character. I call myself the “hectic eclectic,” because I’m not afraid to be bold or play with fashion.

I don’t follow trends; fashion is being above “what’s hot and what’s not.” It’s about you and what you love, what inspires you and what makes you feel good. I actually hate trends, because I feel like they box us into the norm of what we should buy.

Brands don’t define us and style is not found or defined by what we are told is “trending.” Style is us and what we make it.

What do you love about the Mys Tyler platform?

I love the community! The community is kind, and it’s a great place to see others embrace and share their own personal styles.

I think the app is a lot of fun! I’m really passionate about body positivity. It may be seen as a bit of a buzz word nowadays, but I think it is essential to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes body positivity wherever we can. This means supporting and uplifting each other, which I find the Mys Tyler community to be, regardless of our physical appearance or what we wear. Promoting a culture of self-love and acceptance has been really what I’ve seen and what I enjoy about the app most.

I believe nothing should hold you back from doing what you love and creating the life you want. I believe in experimenting with fashion, hair, and makeup and embracing every season of life.

What are your feelings about shopping and what has your experience been like? Have you ever had any problems with shopping (i.e., online or in-stores)?

Self-confessed shopaholic here, so I enjoy shopping in any shape or form. Trying before I buy is great, but buying online is a thrill, too. My postman knows me by name now! Lol. But those who follow me on socials also know I’m an avid thrift shopper and love mixing the old with the new.

What Aussie brands are you loving at the moment?

I love Alémais! I have to sell a kidney to buy a piece, haha, but I do love the European vibe and bold patterns they bring to the fashion world. I don’t own anything from them yet, but maybe one day I can justify the pennies.

Do you have any trending fashion tips coming into winter?

My tip is to wear what makes you happy! Get rid of those pieces that when you see your reflection in the mirror, something feels off. It means it doesn’t work. Don’t underestimate the power of opp shopping. Some of my favorite jumpers and coats I’ve thrifted for a fraction of the price, and another plus is that you’re helping the environment and the community, so it’s a win, win!

Always add a pop of color, and don’t conform to what we are told to wear. Choose your clothes based on what makes your heart sing when you wear it!

Style is us and what we make it.
