Fashion & Flat Whites: Safa Aly

Safa looking absolutely stunning in this gorgeous outfit! Don’t you just love the feather sleeves?

How would you describe your style?

Semi-casual most of the time, and modest!

How long have you been interested in fashion?

In fact, for a long time, perhaps since childhood. I used to design and sew clothes for dolls.  I remember that in middle school, I designed clothes for a play that I directed with my family. I also fell in love with the clothing designs of the 1950s in Egyptian black and white films, which inspired me a lot.

Was there a turning point in your life where you started thinking more creatively when it comes to what you wear and how it makes you feel?

To be honest with you, there are several transformations, the first of which was when I left the study of history and political science and moved on to study fashion. Also, when my old Instagram page blew up, my followers started asking about my clothes and where they were from. I had to show my hijab in a respectful and modest manner, as I did not want to set a bad example. Likewise, when I came to Australia, [I asked myself] ‘How do I maintain my style in strong colors using these calm, natural colors that I would find?’ But I see that the situation has changed now, and there are more bold colors in the market.

I hope to be an encouraging example for new immigrant women to integrate into society and overcome the difficulties of difference, acceptance, language, and all these things.

What is your profession, and how does what you wear impact your profession?

Because I work now as a mother and also in the disability sector, I have to wear semi- casual clothes most of the time. But, there is also time for myself, such as going out to dinner and some events, and that’s when I wear semi-formal clothes.

Can you tell us a bit about your passions?

I studied fashion design, but it is difficult to enter this field at the present time. I design things for myself, and I love that. I tried to benefit from the styling course by making short educational videos on social media, offering advice on the appropriate clothes for each body. I hope to be an encouraging example for new immigrant women to integrate into society and overcome the difficulties of difference, acceptance, language, and all these things.

Safa knows how to incorporate beautiful, bold colors into her wardrobe! Check out this gorgeous outfit!

Can you tell us about your journey to body confidence?

I have gained more than 15 kilos in the past four years since my son was born. This did not negatively affect the way I dress or take care of myself. I also benefited from taking the styling course to learn ways to hide my belly and achieve balance in my clothes.

How did you find out about Mys Tyler?

Because I am interested in fashion, I searched for events in this field, and unfortunately there are few in Australia compared to other places, such as Dubai and New York, for example. I found a Mys Tyler Flat White event and attended. I would like to thank Mys Tyler for their efforts in this field.

How has using Mys Tyler impacted you?

In fact, the impact is deeper than just the idea of fashion. There is the acceptance of cultural diversity and different backgrounds. It is very wonderful. Mys Tyler treats their users like family. I spent a wonderful day with Mys Tyler and was in a fashion show. I will never forget that day. I felt like I was with my family.

What's the perfect formula for a feel-good outfit?

Knowing the right clothes for your body shape is the key to the secret.

What do you hope the future of fashion will look like?

Less fast fashion that negatively affects the environment and water consumption, and more sustainability and recycling.

Safa showing once again that she knows how to style outfits beautifully!
