Fashion & Flat Whites: Arshelena A

Arshelena wearing a beautiful pink dress on holiday!

How would you describe your style?

My style is somewhere between sugar and spice. I love to show strong women values in my style. I am madly in love with a combination of dress and boots!

How long have you been interested in fashion, and what inspired your interest?

I've been interested in fashion since I was 7 years old, or as long as I can remember. My mom said that I used to copy outfits from the fashion shows I saw and I’d pretend to walk on the catwalk. I mostly wear outer clothing and skirts!

Actually, what influences me the most are anime and gothic style, since I love both of them. But in my country, it's not really easy to find clothes my size. But it doesn't hold me back! Just like the meme said "Improvise. Adapt. Overcome". And, oh! I really love the color black.

Can you tell us about your journey to body confidence?

At first, I felt shy, because I'm not that girl that fits social media beauty standards. I'm not thin, I have a double chin, I have big arms, etc. But as the time goes by, I learn that you can be pretty and gorgeous by loving yourself and being confident! Please be kind to yourself. Sure it takes time, but it's worth it. And please, don't listen to those who put you down!  YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!

Everybody has their own style, because it represents who they are, so please be kind!

How did you find out about Mys Tyler?

I was scrolling through Instagram Stories and an advertisement for Mys Tyler just popped up! It told me to swipe-up to see more about the app. And it was the best swipe-up I've ever done! Mys Tyler has really helped me find myself.

How has using Mys Tyler impacted you?

The Mys Tyler application is so kind, it allows us to express ourselves more. Now I feel more confident, more inspired, and more creative. The fashionista inside me that has been drowning for a long time has now made a comeback and is ready to inspire people with love!

The first time I put my whole body on Instagram was from a Mys Tyler action, which encouraged me to show myself on Instagram. I wondered “Am I allowed to do this?”. My friends encouraged me to give it a go. So, I created an Instagram, based on my Mys Tyler account, and suddenly, people started following me on Instagram, too!

This community is so beautiful. In Indonesia, the fashion community can be bullies when you're not their ideal standard. But on Mys Tyler, there’s so much confidence, support, and inspiration to express ourselves. Mys Tyler is my second home.

What is your profession?

I’m a lecturer's research assistant. I present at international conventions, and I love to write research papers. My focus is marketing and social media.

Arshelena rocking a gorgeous, striped multi-colored dress! Always SO fun when a dress has pockets, isn’t it!?

What's your favorite fashion hack?

Boots and skirts are always good to go! And you can never go wrong with black.

Don't forget to spray your favorite perfume!

What's the perfect formula for a feel-good outfit?

I dress up based on my mood. I always put comfort first. Don't forget to trial and error before you actually wear it! Then, wear your favorite and valuable accessories. For example, if I want to attend an important meeting, I will wear my favorite formal outfit and a bracelet from my late father as my lucky charm.

What do you hope the future of fashion will look like?

I hope that future fashion will allow us to represent the real versions and values of ourselves. There will be no bad words for people who still haven’t figured out their style. Everybody has their own style, because it represents who they are, so please be kind!

One of Arshelena’s favorite paintings is Starry Night, so she was so excited to buy and wear this beautiful open buttoned shirt! We love how she’s styled this look!
